WHAT ARE THE CONSEQUENCES OF IGNORING THE LAW? *

PENALTIES - Penalties for those who break the law can be severe and far reaching (typical provincial fines):

RETAILERS / OWNERS
First offence: A fine of $500 to $2,000 and possibility of a one-month suspension of the tobacco sales licence
Subsequent offence: A fine of $1,000 to $6,000 and possibility of a six-month suspension of the tobacco sales licence

EMPLOYEES
First offence: A fine of $100 to $300
Subsequent offence: A fine of $200 to $600

LOSS OF INCOME
Three offences under the Act within a five-year period: Loss of the licence for a period of two years
